Presentation Skills

Your ability to present greatly effects how you are perceived by others. With experience in debate competitions, as a lawyer, and as a presenter, I am uniquely qualified to offer customized training for every level of presenter. Ideally, I'd like to teach one of the classes listed below and then have a follow-up session with the same group at a later time. Classes can be customized for your needs. All classes are recorded on video with a copy given to each student of his or her speeches.

  • Conquer the Fear of Public Speaking
  • How to Create a Speech or Presentation
  • Presentation Do's and Don'ts
  • Advanced Techniques for Better Persuasion
  • Tips for Presenting in a Competitive Environment
  • Proper Use of Demonstrative Aids

Presentation Skills Courses

The length of a course depends on the number of students and the amount of topics covered. Classes typically include practice and critique and that is time consuming. I'll offer suggestions for best results and work with your time constraints.

Conquering the Fear of Public Speaking

This course features a discussion period at the beginning designed to help people talk about their fear, understand the causes, and set up a plan for success. The bulk of the time is spent on student exercises where they present short speeches on familiar subjects to the rest of the class.

Practice and Critique

Students are told in advance to prepare a speech, approximately five minutes in length, on any subject. After each presentation, the floor is opened to the other students for meaningful comments. Then, I comment on the presentation. The critique focuses on teaching proper techniques in the preparation and presentation of the speech.

Creating Great Presentations (Beginning Techniques)

This class helps students break down a presentation into its five components and teaches them how to best organize it for their audience and themselves. Most presentation skills instructors teach delivery techniques (e.g. how to stand or use hand gestures) and ignore the creation of content. The quality of the content can be every bit as critical to the success of your presentation as the delivery. This class is most effective with a second session which allows students to create a presentation using the skills they learned in the first class. If taught in a single day, students would learn techniques in the morning, create a short presentation in the middle, and deliver in the afternoon. Sometimes we create a presentation as a class.

Creating Great Presentations (Advanced Techniques)

Students learn how to squeeze every ounce of persuasion and audience enjoyment out of their presentation opportunity. This course is designed for experienced presenters or students who have completed the beginning course.

Special Delivery

This course focuses more on the correct and best methods to deliver a presentation and less on creation of content. Stance, hand gestures, using the room, voice, and dress are examples of content areas.

Competitive Presentations

Sales presentations, litigation, any presentation where you have an opponent bring special challenges. Learn how to prepare your presentation to place your message in the best position possible.

Presentations with PowerPoint

Learn how to use PowerPoint and other demonstrative aids to your advantage and avoid the common pitfalls that torpedo most presentations.

Executive Course

Designed for those who go into a speech with special notoriety due to their title, position or fame. You gain the advantage of instant credibility, but the stakes are higher and the risks greater. Learn how to get the most out of your speaking opportunities.

Debate Preparation

Preparing for a political debate, panel discussion or a big case? Learn from someone who has been there dozens of times and been successful.
